Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to all! My festivities were last night and tonight was a night to chill. I reused last year's flapper costume since I was too lazy to shop for something new since John couldn't come with me to the party. The party was A LOT of fun and my friend Kimmie's house was decorated like no other. It made me look like I had little to no interest in Halloween. It was great. Everyone was friendly and I couldn't have asked for a better time (ok, well if John could have come it would have been better).

Tonight my friend Kurt and I hung out, went to get some groceries for him, and then cooked some food at my house. Ham steaks, homemade mac and cheese, green beans, and some pudding pie! I'm wishing that last night was actually Halloween because now that it's 10:30 and I'm sitting home alone, it doesn't feel like Halloween at all. But, oh well.

Do Nothing

That is just about all of what I did today. I did manage to workout for an hour, shower, and run a few errands, but other than that...I didn't do a thing. Frankly, after the week we had last week. I feel entitled to have a do nothing day!

Our Creations

We arrived home today from our adventures in Sleepy Hollow. What a beautiful drive it was with all the changing leaves!

We were in need of some MAJOR grocery shopping and also some pumpkins to carve. So that's what we did. Here are our creations for this year. No Pumpkin Masters for me this year and definitely NO comparison to what we saw last night, but they're ours, and we like them.

The Legend and The Blaze

Tonight John and I spent the night down in Sleepy Hollow, New York to go to The Legend and The Great Jack O Lantern Blaze. The Legend was alright, nothing I'd have to see again by ourselves. Maybe with kids that are 5 and older, but other than that, I don't really need to go back. The Great Jack O Lantern Blaze though is another story. Amazing doesn't even seem to be the right word. It made up for the money we spent on The Legend. Here are some of the pictures, although they do NO justice to what they actually look like in person.

Home for a Night

We made it back to New York today after some shifting in our plans. We were scheduled to leave today and drive here to New York, only down state, near the city. Well, we decided that since we've been gone for over a week that we were ready to sleep in our own beds. So we drove home to our house in Saratoga and tomorrow we'll drive down to Sleepy Hollow for The Legend and The Great Jack O Lantern Blaze. I stumbled upon them online and figured since it was only 3 hours away that we must go.

Tonight we'll get a good night's sleep in our own bed and tomorrow we'll get up, pack an overnight bag and leave sometime after lunch. We're spending the night down there and then will come home again on Monday. The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow, and here's hoping it is!!

I Could've Sworn....

That I had the Broadway piece in the McDonald's Monopoly game. I was sitting at mom and dad's tonight and a Wendy's commercial came on. We were talking about hamburgers never looking like that and somehow we got talking about McDonald's. I told her to let me know if she had Park Place because we had Broadway. She about jumped out of her chair. She said she didn't believe me and that I needed to go get it. Well then I remembered that I had left it in John's truck and John is spending the night up at his parents in Dayton tonight.

So I called up there and told him he needed to get in his truck and get out the Monopoly piece I left in there. He said he'd go out and check, and then remembered he dropped his truck off at the mechanic this evening so the guy can work on it in the morning. I told him I swore we had the Broadway piece and if we did, he needed to get it because we'd be millionaires. His mom took him up there so he could look, calls me back, and tells me it's Park Place.

Now I don't know if I'm crazy or what, but I could SWEAR that we had Broadway, but apparently it's Park Place. I distinctly remember though when I pulled the tab off his Angus burger saying, "Ooh, Broadway. Nobody ever gets this piece! We'll have to keep it and ask around if anyone gets Park Place." But John thinks it was the other way around. It's killing me because maybe I'm just crazy, but I swear I was right, but apparently not.

All I know is that if his mechanic turns up "winning the million," I'm kicking his ass because he stole it from me!

Away We Go....

Again. We're headed back to Cincinnati for a week. My cousin is getting married on Saturday so we're going to that and then spending the rest of the week visiting family and friends. This post is short since we're leaving in less than an hour. See you in the Nati!

Pumpkin Kick

I have been on a pumpkin kick lately. Are you shocked? The other day it was pumpkin cookies. Every year, this time of year, is pumpkin spice lattes or coffees (the best being from the AMPM gas station in Washington). This morning, it was oatmeal with pumpkin puree. Delicious! The whole reason I decided to make it was because I had some left over pumpkin from the cookies I made and I didn't want to throw it away. I also added a scoop of protein powder to the mix to give it the protein that it seriously lacks. The recipe says it makes 2 servings which I measured out into 2, 3/4 cup servings. After I ate it though, I probably would have made it a half cup serving and had 4 servings since it was pretty filling. I really enjoyed it though and will be having it again tomorrow! Yummy!

2 Years Ago

2 years ago today was John and I's, what I like to call, "White Dress Wedding!" I'd like to call it our "half" anniversary, but it's really 8 months. It seems like forever ago! That day was so much fun and I'd do anything to do it all over again. It's even harder to believe that we'll be married 3 years in just 4 short months. Where does the time go?

Pumpkin Cookies

I baked pumpkin cookies today! My sister found the recipe online last year and told me about them when I was home right before Thanksgiving. I tried one and was hooked. So I made them to take to our Thanksgiving in WA and John was also hooked. Tis the season for pumpkin, so therefore, pumpkin cookies! They are so soft, almost like cake. I'm a little mad at myself for baking them because now that they are in the house, we'll eat them. I try and stay away from delicious junk food snacks like ice cream and cookies because I have little self control for them. Well, I take that back. I only eat the "serving size" of whatever it is, but I can eat whatever it is, everyday, until it's gone. I'm hoping John will take some of them to work...but I doubt that will happen.

Ok, so here is the fall decor for my house this year. What do you think? Too much? Too little? Am I nuts? Call me crazy, but I like it.

Apple Picking

Today John and I went apple picking! There are TONS of places up here where you can go, so we looked and found a place 20 minutes from our house. It was a lot of fun. There were so many varities of apples though, we didn't know what we'd want to eat and what we wouldn't want to eat. So we just ended up picking a few of each kind, totaling 3lbs. to bring home. I'm not quite sure what the heck I'll do with them yet because I can't eat them all before we leave next week. I'm sure I'll figure something out! Here's a few pictures from our adventure.

The Dentist

I had a dentist appointment today for some fillings. This, I have never had to have in my entire life so I wasn't all that sure what to expect. They had told me 2 weeks ago when I was there for my cleaning that they would blow some powder in the pits that I had and then put some gel and stuff over it and I'd be good to go and no one would be the wiser that I had to get fillings. No drilling, no novacaine, none of that business involved.

My appointment was at 2pm and I was getting in my car at 2:30! I'd have to say that they are some of the quickest people I've ever dealt with. I'm no dentist so are they doing a quality job? Hell if I know, but I trust that they do. The assistant was great. She showed me everything they were going to use on me, which generally I could care less about, and was happy she did because there were 2 things that looked like needles which would have freaked me out. Luckily they were only the things he used to squirt the gel where I needed the fillings.

After that quick trip I went down to Michael's and bought some fall accessories for the house. I think I'll spend my weekend days putting the rest of my goodies up so I can post some pictures. I apologize for hardly ever posting pics. I'm sure sometimes it's boring to just read what's happening and not having a picture to accompany it. But, I never claimed to be the craftiest person now did I?

This Is Why.....

I don't like going to the doctor. I went yesterday, and today my doctor calls me at 9:30am which makes me nervous. He basically tells me the same thing the PA tells me yesterday. My diastolic number was high which I know was largely due to the fact that I was going to a new doctor which always makes me nervous. Then they tell me that the white cell count in my urine is high. What the hell does that mean? The PA tells me it could mean nothing especially since I don't have any kinds of symptoms of anything else, but she's sending it for culture. THIS makes me nervous. What if there is something wrong with me that I just don't know about?

So now I have to go back on Thursday for a blood pressure check which I am already nervous about. Ever since I moved away from WA, it has been good and low. I even own a cuff and it is never high, and just to make sure it was somewhat accurate, I double checked it with the cuff at Wal-Mart and they are pretty close. It frustrates me that this is even happening. I refuse to take medication because I KNOW it's not high. Just because it's high when I go to the doctor and not any other time does not call for medication. We'll see how it goes though. This is why I don't like to go to the doctor.

A Lazy Day

What a lazy day today was for me. I guess it all started with the fact that I was out WAY too late last night. My friend Brian and I went to a brewery in Glens Falls to meet up with a girl he had met while doing a bike ride a few weeks ago. So we hung out with her and some of her friends. It started with a few drinks at the brewery and then ended at a bar around the corner called Sammie's at 3 something in the morning. I ended up getting home around 4ish and had to get up at 8 so I could shower and get ready for my doctor's appointment at 10.

I got back home around 11, ate some lunch, got my pillows, laid on the couch and slept until 5! I was a little worried at how long of a "nap" it was, but then I figured, I usually sleep around 8-10 hours a days so if I only slept 4 hours at night, then a 5 hour nap just makes it even. Sad, I know.

I spent the rest of my evening on the couch hanging out. The weather has been less than ideal for about a week now so I think that has a large part to do with my laziness today. I'm hoping that we'll see the sun around here sometime soon.

It Has Arrived

The month of October that is! I'm pretty sure that it's my favorite month of them all. I love the cool weather (although it's been down right cold up here), the changing leaves, and not to mention...Halloween!! The downfall this year is that I don't live in any kind of subdivision where I'll get trick or treaters which makes me sad, oh yeah, and the fact that I don't know if we have enough friends to throw a Halloween party (although I'm working on it). No one said you had to have a lot of friends to make a great party, just enough good ones who know how to party!

In anticipation of today being October 1st, I drug out my Halloween decorations so I could begin putting up all my goodies. The top of my cabinets are done for the most part, but I still have a few more things that I need to buy and put out before I'll post pictures of the finished product.

I had lunch today with a friend from work (I guess I can't call it work since I don't work there anymore). We ate at a place called The Whistling Kettle in Ballston Spa.

We got there around 11:30 and were the only people there besides 2 other people. She told me that come noon, it'd be packed. Sure enough she was right. It's a small little place that specalizes in teas but also serves food. It was delicious!! Here's the menu page I ordered from.



I got the "Afternoon Tea" 3 tier thing. I of course didn't have any tea since I don't like it, but the food was so good. I had a panini that had: turkey, provolone, sun dried tomato pesto, and avacado, a salad with balsalmic vinigarette, and a cranberry scone. YUM!!!

Other than that, my day was uneventful. It's super cold in my house and I'm refusing to turn on the heat for now. It's 63 in here which is a bit too chilly for me, but I'm holding out on turning on the heat. I'm not quite ready to start having to pay that astronomical bill.
