We move, get settled, adjust, and just when things feel slightly normal...we move again. All I can hope is that someday...we'll put down roots.

Waiting for Wednesday
Friday morning, we went down to Huck Finn's Warehouse in Albany to pick out some rugs for the house. I've been once before with Melissa, and another time John and I went, but they didn't have any colors that I was really crazy about. Fortunately, this trip, I found 3 that I like and they've been purchased and will be delivered on Wednesday. I'm so excited because I'm hoping that it will make it feel a bit warmer. I love the way our hardwood looks, but it so ungodly cold in our bedroom!!

Ewww That Smell
I hope that as soon as you read that you sing that song, "Oooh that smell...can you smell that smell?" I like that song, however, I do not like the smell coming from our faucets. We have well water which generally has an off smell anyways, but lately, it's been smelling AWFUL! It used to just be the hot water, but now, it's both hot and cold. When you take a shower, after you get out and go downstairs, if you go back up within a few minutes, it smells like someone has taken a giant smelly dump and left it for you to take a peek at. Our landlord is supposed to come and fix it this weekend, something about needing different pipes. I don't know, but I am really hoping it fixes the situation because I don't know how much longer we can stand that smell!

Mmmm...Outback

| From Someday We'll Put Down Roots |
Today was like any other day (for right now) in our house, so it was pretty uneventful. Got up, worked out, took a shower, did some laundry and then around 3, we decided to do some Wal-marting and then go out for dinner. We went to Outback courtesy of my parents for the gift card for Christmas. John gets mad at me for ordering Chicken on the Barbie when we go. He's always saying, "It's a steak place, why don't you get steak?!" It's not that I don't like steak, I just like chicken a little bit more. It's not a "watching what I'm eating" thing, it's just what I like. Occasionally I will get steak, but it's very rare. Now take me to a rib joint and you better bet your ass I'll be getting ribs. My friend's boyfriend calls me "Ribs" when I call her, it's that much of a well known fact that I love ribs. So, as much as I like turkey and chicken, I love me some ribs.
Thanks to mom and dad for the gift card. It was put to good use and my belly is full and happy now!!

I'm Sorry!
Tricia, this post is for you. My sincerest apologies for sharing my failure in attempting to make a healthy Skyline. Note that I DID say that I will NEVER do it again and I will enjoy every bit of unheatlhy goodness that is Skyline chili. I just thought I'd give it a shot. I've learned my lesson!!

Not Everything Can Be Healthy
Tonight's dinner menu....homemade Skyline chili. We're supposed to get 8+ inches of snow beginning overnight tonight into heavier snowfall tomorrow so I thought skyline chili would be a good dinner.
When we went to grocery store this morning, I toyed with the idea of using ground turkey for the chili instead of the ground beef it calls for. I can't remember the last time we ate ground beef in any meal as we try to be more health conscious. Well, as I was walking through the frozen section, I noticed that Morning Star(a brand that makes things vegetarian like corn dogs, sausage patties, and hamburgers that actually taste good) made already cooked ground beef (but vegetarian so it's not real ground beef) that you can use in meals. So I asked John what he thought about me using it in the Skyline and he said he thought it'd be fine. So that...is what I used.
I stuck it all in the crock pot around 2:30 and went to the outlet mall with Marisa. We came home around 7 and I was expecting to walk in to a house smelling like yummy Skyline. Much to my dismay, it didn't smell like it usually does when I make it. So I took the lid off, stirred it, and spooned out some in a little cup to taste. Yeah, it didn't taste nearly as good as it usually does. We ate it anyways and it wasn't too bad, but it just didn't taste as good as it does when you use ground beef. The upside is that I'm sure it was much healthier for us with a LOT less fat and calories, but this is one meal that I will take the hit on fat and calories if it means it will taste better. I'm not sure if it would have been any better had I used turkey instead, but I'm not sure I'm willing to try and mess with making Skyline healthy again. Lesson learned...not everything in life can be healthy. Or maybe it can, it just won't taste as good!

Week in Review
It's been a week since I've updated...so with it being Friday and our street being a solid sheet of ice and on a hill, we won't be going anywhere tonight.
The last time I posted I spoke of my fantastic husband who offered to take and pick up my friend and I from the bar. He was such a good sport! Marisa met me here around 9:30pm and then we headed to Trotters. We didn't have any plans of how late we were going to stay out, just until we were bored or ready to go home. Well, that didn't happen until 4am when the bartender called last call! We had so much fun talking to random people and making new friends. Marisa was the heart breaker of the night however. It was hilarious!! Some guy kept talking to her and sitting by her and after about 2-3 hours he asked her if she wanted to hang out sometime. Tastefully, she said no. He finished his beer and left while we laughed hysterically! She has a long term boyfriend but I guess this guy just never asked. He was nice, but I guess just didn't know that you don't just start hitting on a girl without asking if she's single. But I guess in this guys case, you do. Either way, we had so much fun and were very thankful that John came and picked us up around 4:30am and enjoyed our bar stories on the way home. He's a trooper :)
This week has again, not been very exciting. It's been terribly windy and cold here the last few days. We got 4-5 inches of snow Wednesday and warmer temperatures on Thursday which helped to melt some of it. Unfortunately, no one plowed the street we live on (it's a private lane) and when the cold weather came overnight last night, the entire street is now a solid sheet of ice. My neighbor's husband had to have someone come and pick him up at the bottom of the street because he couldn't get down it this morning to go to work. Our landlord is supposed to take care of the street from the main road up to our driveway, but apparently he talked to someone else who lives here on the lane and they said they do it. Yeah, right. So tomorrow he's supposed to talk to that guy and get something figured out. I don't understand why they just don't pay to have someone take care of the driveway. That way no single person is responsible for clearing it. I guess people up here don't think the way we do!
We're supposed to go down to buy some carpets for the house tomorrow, but we're not sure we'll be able to make it down the road. I'm hoping we can though because the floors in our bedroom are super cold!! I'm hoping it will make it feel a little more cozy.
I don't really know much else without feeling like I'm rambling on. I did bake a crustless apple pie last night though. I had a piece of it yesterday, but it was still warm and I don't like warm pie. So when I have a piece tonight after dinner, I'll let you all know how it was. But I'm fairly certain that it's pretty good because even though it was warm, it did taste good. It's heart healthy, low in fat and calories, what's not to like?!?! I'm a very harsh critic of apple pie, so I'll be honest tomorrow.

Belated Valentine's Day
Well, we didn't do much yesterday for Valentine's Day since neither of us like waiting hours for dinner. So instead, we went to the store and picked up groceries for the week, a bottle of wine and we had dinner at home with chocolate fondue for dessert. I made the fondue from the cookbook Deceptively Delicious and I have to say, for having pureed carrots and avocado in it, it was really good! We dipped strawberries and bananas in it and enjoyed having it for dessert (with leftovers for today or tomorrow). It doesn't taste exactly like real chocolate fondue tastes (I wouldn't really know because it's been over 10 years since I've had "real" fondue) but neither of us were complaining. I have to say that I think the cookbook is pretty clever and will be great once we have kids and they can eat solid food. Heck, I like it for John! It's good for getting vegetables into sweets and just everyday foods without really tasting them.
Today we're going to go out for dinner since we didn't go out yesterday. Plus we've got gift cards to Applebee's and Outback so I think we're going to Applebee's. It's not my favorite place to eat but hey, it's free. Then later on tonight, I'm going out with Marisa and my husband is kind enough to take us and pick us up. I've driven him quite a few times and he owes me, so I'm cashing one in for tonight. It won't be a big party out since it's a Sunday night, but it will be nice to sit with a friend and catch up since I've been gone for a few weeks and haven't been out. And with a nice husband to be our DD, the night couldn't have been planned any better!

Getting Back On Track
We haven't been home for but a few days and I'm desperately trying to get back on track. I still have yet to unpack my suitcase and every day when I take a shower, I'm just too lazy to even want to put my clothes in the hamper, so I just leave them in a pile next to the bathtub. I know, it's sad, but after living out of a suitcase for 3 weeks I just don't feel like unpacking or dealing with clothes. I have so many in the closet that I can get away with this for a few more days but it will get on my nerves (actually, it kinda already has) before I ever run out of clothes. I am actually entertaining the idea of doing some laundry today. It's just a slow process for me.
I am, however, doing a good job at getting back on track with working out. John was nice enough to buy me a heart rate monitor to help me track my burned calories because I've been complaining that I'd like to lose some weight. I've always been good at working out, but the problem is you never really know how many calories your burning and we all know that those machines that have the grips are probably never right. So I've been using it for the past 2 days and it's pretty helpful. He bought one for himself months ago and uses it religiously, so I figured, why not me too. So, we'll see how it goes.
Other than that, I don't really know much else. I'm still trying to get used to John being home and around the house. People probably think I'm crazy for saying that it's hard to get used to your husband, but when you're used to being alone for 90% of the time, it just is...for me at least. Some people have no problem getting readjusted. Me? It just takes a few weeks.

Ice Ice Baby
Oh my....I've never seen so much ice as I've seen today.
We got home yesterday evening around 4:30 and I can't think of a better way to spend our 2 year anniversary. It felt so good to be home and to sleep in our own bed. Now we just have to get everything settled and in to a normal routine. I'm sure it will take a few days, but we'll get there and I'll be even happier once that happens.
Today we went to the grocery store and stocked up since we had nothing (I have been gone for 3 weeks!) After we got home and ate lunch, John went downstairs to work out and I went outside to start chopping the ice that is our driveway. They got a ridiculous amount of snow and ice while we were away. The snow has since melted (on the driveway) and we are left with at least 2-3 inches of ice. I spent a good 2 hours chopping away what I could at the end of the driveway and then John came out and chipped away by our back step while I salted everything. We're supposed to get up into the 50's tomorrow so I'm hoping that a lot of it will melt.
It's so good to be home and I can't think about anything else really. It will feel that much better once we have everything the way we want. It might be a while before that happens, but when it does, I'll be pumped!

Missoula, Montana
We began our trek East today after a night of crappy sleep for the both of us. John had to check out of PSD (no idea what that stands for)this morning at 7:30 and by the time he got back and loaded the remainder of our things in the truck, we were road bound by 8:30. For the first time in my life, I didn't fall asleep once in the car! Whether or not it's because I told myself not to or just because I'm so used to this drive by now that it just seemed normal to be awake, who knows.
We've stopped in Missoula, Montana for the night and I'm ready to crash. We're staying at the La Quinta and I have to say, they have the most comfortable beds I've ever put my body in besides my own. With that being said, I'm going to watch some tv, relax, and go to bed. Another long day ahead tomorrow!

Tennis Anyone?
It's 1:30am here in Washington 7:30pm on Sunday in Australia and I am up watching the men's finals of the Australian Open on ESPN2. I know you all think I am crazy, and I very well might be, but I didn't want to miss this game. Yes, it is re airing at noon tomorrow, but that means when I woke up I couldn't check my email due to the fact that I would find out who won on the news banners. Mind you, the two playing in the finals are the two greatest players in the world and are always worth watching and not to mention the two players I enjoy watching the most. Therefore, I am up watching to see who will win this title (that and I woke up sweating like no other and couldn't fall back asleep). I am rooting for Rodger Federer, however, I wouldn't be upset either if Rafael Nadal won either. Like I said, they are the two greatest players in the world ranked #1 and #2, and they both are gracious winners and losers which makes you happy for either. The only question that remains is...will I make it through to witness the end before I fall asleep? I hope!
