Slackin'

I'm super guilty of being a slacker posting lately and I feel bad about it. Well, kinda. I'm not THAT guilty because I'm not sure that all that many people read this, but I know the few people that do, enjoy it. I promise I will do my best to post more for the month of July.

Surprises, Free Stuff, What Could Be Better?

What a day today has come to be.

First of all, day 4 of training....continuing to be a JOKE. However, I'm getting paid to do nothing so I'll take it. Not my fault by any means. If they want to give me money and have me sit around and read meaningless things, by all means, be my guest.

So I get off at 4, come home, check the mail and drive up to the house. Both pieces of mail are for me. One, a magazine, the second, something from the New York State Department of Education. I immediately said, "Ooh, is this a reimbursement check for not giving me my license?" Sadly....it wasn't. It was BETTER. It was a 2 year provisional initial license. What does that mean? It means that I have 2 years to take the required tests to then get their 5 year regular license. Fine by me!! That gives me 2 years to hopefully sub or find something long term maybe. Either way, I'm "certified" which makes me happy. The license expires on August of 2011 and I'm sure by then I will have a child and will not be worried about teaching, or if subbing does turn out well, I might just suck it up and pay for my 5 year license. Either way, I'm overly excited and happy to have it. It also means that after the summer, I won't feel bad if I want to quit the bank. I have every intention of apply at at least 5 schools to sub because it means that much more now that I'm certified.

I also met up with my friend Brian tonight for some wings and drinks at Trotter's. As it turned out, it was also Malibu Rum night which meant there were "drink girls" there giving out free stuff and drinks. So we got a free Malibu drink, glow bracelets, a visor, and some flip flops. I love being at the bar when it's free stuff night. Whether or not you actually use the things they give you is irrelevant, it's just fun to get free things with alcohol logos on it. NO, it does not mean I'm a drunk.

Catch Up

My apologies for not updating sooner, but things have been busy since I've been back from Vegas...yes, I did come back.

My trip was great as to be expected. It always feels good to be there, although I did get a little bit tired of being on the strip. It's lost it's appeal since living there, so Vegas to me is really not what Vegas is to others. I like doing things "local style" and away from the strip. But Aaron had never had the chance to stay on the strip so that's why we did it. Like I said, any which way you slice it, we had a great time.


We saw 2 different shows while we were there, both Cirque du Soleli shows and both very different. The first show we saw was Zumanity at New York New York and it was AWESOME! It was more on the burlesque side and more sexually oriented, but hilarious and amazing all at the same time. I'd have to say the funniest part of the entire show was when they pulled this woman up on stage near the end, and I'd say she was probably in her late 50s, early 60s, and she was rubbing all over this guy....I can't even describe it....but the entire audience was cracking up. I would definitely see the show again, and I would definitely pay to sit down in the very front. Our seats were only 12 rows from stage and were great, but sitting in the first 5 rows proved to be potentially rewarding. I don't want to give anything away for anyone who may see it anytime in the coming years.



The other show we saw was Criss Angel Belive at the Luxor. For those of you who aren't familiar with Criss Angel, he used to have a show on A&E called Mindfreak where he basically walks the Vegas streets and does different magic stunts and what not. I really liked his A&E show and I also think he's hot (a lot of people don't agree with me, but hey, different strokes for different folks). I wasn't sure really what to expect from his show though because I couldn't really understand how they would mix Cirque du Soleli with magic, and even after seeing the show, I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I don't want to say it was bad, but I don't want to say it was an excellent show. I felt like it should have been more about his magic than about blending it with Cirque. But that's just my opinion. We were sitting close and could see him very well which was very welcoming for me. Would I see it again? Probably not. Do I regret seeing it? Not at all. So, I remain undecided on it overall.

The Hangover....and The Departure

Last night my friend Aaron, John, and I all went to go see the movie 'The Hangover' and I'll have to say that it was pretty funny. If you haven't seen the previews, it's about 4 guys who go to Vegas for a bachelor party and can't remember anything that happened the next day. We laughed through the whole movie and it pumped Aaron and I up that much more for our trip.

We are leaving for Vegas this evening around 5:25 pm and should arrived around 10:30. A little late for my taste, but hey, I'll be "home" so I'm not complaining. We're staying with a friend of mine tonight and then we'll be staying on the strip for the next 3 nights. We leave to come back East on Wednesday and I'm still not sure yet if I'll actuallly leave on that Wednesday, or wait until Friday. I need to soak up as much time in Vegas as I can because I'm not sure when I'll be able to go back. I kid with John and tell him I'll just stay there which is overly tempting, but we both know I'll come back...against my better judgement;)

Add Ons

It's been a busy week here at the house. Contractors have been here every day since Monday, and we now have steps leading up to our front porch, plus a porch extension for our grill to go on so we don't have to grill under the ceiling of the porch. They have also glued the molding up on the pillars where they belong and my landlord is supposed to come out this weekend to fix the busted railing finally. Crazy right?!


My friend Aaron Speed came in town on Wednesday and after I got home from picking him up, there was a message on our answering machine from Cathy at First Niagra with a formal job offer. So I officially have a part time job now. I'll be starting on June 15th, so I'm curious to see how it goes. I'm keeping an open mind, but like I've said in numerous past posts, if it sucks, I'm outta there.

We laid out on our dock today with my neighbor Melissa which was awesome. My face is a little bit red, but other than that, I'm good. Aaron actually got tan lines which we both found funny because he's black. We were unaware that black people could get tan lines!

Other than that, not much else is going on. We leave for Vegas on Saturday and I couldn't be more excited. I wish that John could come with us, but as always it's work work work for him. I am super lucky that I have a husband who doesn't mind my friendship with Aaron or that I'm going to Vegas without him. I know a lot of guys would have a problem with it, but John doesn't and I'm very thankful. Aaron has been one of my best friends for the past 3 years, we tell people we meet that we are related because we think it's funny when they look at us and then ask how since he's black and I'm white. So, there's nothing for John to be mad about even if he wanted to be, but either way, I'm happy he doesn't mind. Not sure yet what tomorrow will bring, but I'm sure it'll fun. It seems that summer is finally making it's mark here and I couldn't be happier.

I Guess?

Today I received a phone call from the assistant manager at First Niagra. The reason she called was not to offer me a job, but to ask me a question. When I mentioned that I needed a Saturday off, did I mean one Saturday a month or a Saturday every once in a while? Seriously?!!?! They called for that? After telling her that I only needed a Saturday every once in a while when I ask for one, she tells me that Cathy from HR is going to be getting in touch with me to get things set up. She then asked if I was still interested and I said yes.

So, I guess I have a job? I'm not 100% sure. But no one has officially offered me a position, so who knows.
