Back to It

So it's been about a month since my last post and I'm finally just getting back to it. We were gone for about 2 weeks and was beyond overwhelmed once we got back. I'll sum up the past 4 weeks as quickly as possible without going into too much detail about any situation or goings on.

Being home was great. We had two baby showers, one put on by his family, and the other put on by my sister and mom. The shower my in-laws threw was really nice and the shower my mom and sister threw was amazing. The cake my sister had made was stunning! It was a replica of the turtles that were on my invitation and was SUPER delicious. The only downfall to both of these showers, the 9lbs I gained in 4 weeks. Yeah, found that out when I went to my doctor's appointment the day after we got back. I wasn't super excited about it, but oh well. Now that we're back home, I'll just have to be extra diligent about what I eat and making sure I get to work out.

John ran the Flying Pig Marathon while we were home. It was the first race I've ever not gone to support him at the finish line. I felt bad about not being able to be there, but the race began at 6:30a.m. and I think he left my parents at 4a.m. which was just NOT something my body was going to allow me to do. My belly, him, and I in a queen size bed didn't make for the most comfortable conditions, so I wasn't sleeping well at all. Plus, the weather was garbage that day and I wasn't about to stand outside in the rain and risk getting a cold. His goal was to finish in 3:30:00 and he finished in 3:38:something. He said the hills were what really got him...that and the humidity. Either way, he did great despite not meeting his "goal" time.

Getting home from Cincinnati was quite the chore. We had so much baby stuff that we had to buy 2 30 gallon Rubbermaid containers, one 45 gallon one, and had another 30 gallon one my parents weren't needing anymore. They were all full along with the cab of our truck! Thankfully the weather was decent for most of the trip, only raining for about and hour in Columbus and the entire last hour once we got near home.

Unpacking all the baby stuff has been a little overwhelming. John was very gung ho about getting it all separated and unpacked before he had to go back to work, but despite all that, we still have 2 bins full of things. One is toys and the other is of things that need to be laundered. I deal with it on days that I feel like dealing with it, and leave it sit the others. Hopefully I'll get it all done before she arrives!!

John ran another race (he's a bit obsessed with doing these random races lately) last Saturday. It's called the Prospect Mountain Race. 5.67 miles up a 1,600 something elevation gain. He came in 3rd in his age group and 11th out of 134 runners with a time of 47:46. He's officially insane.

My 31st birthday is tomorrow and that makes me feel old. We have nothing special planned since John is on the night shift this week for the next 7 days, and I have a doctor's appointment on Friday. So we'll do dinner out on Friday, that way I can enjoy all my food rather than worrying about having to get on the scale. I can splurge and enjoy the weekend, and get back to normal on Monday. Assuming the scale isn't too ridiculous Friday. Here's to hoping!

Cleaned and Packed

My house is clean (yes, I clean before I go out of town because I hate coming home to a dirty house), and I am packed and as ready as I guess I can be for tomorrow's departure toward Cincinnati. We're planning on stopping in Erie, PA for the night which is 6 1/2 hours from here. It may be the longest 6 1/2 hours of my life. I hope my child finds a comfortable place in my belly that will allow me to be comfortable...otherwise, I'm going to be one crabby lady. God give us the strength and patience to get there and then to Cincinnati the next day. Don't look for me to post much, if anything, the next 2 weeks. Going home to visit is sort of like going back in time. No call waiting, no high speed Internet, no cable, no cell phone reception...you get the idea. It's kinda nice though sometimes, just don't tell anyone I said that! :)

Preparing

It's Monday and I'm trying to mentally prepare for our trip to Cincinnati. I'm looking forward to seeing my family and friends, but I'm not looking forward to the traveling itself, $4 a gallon gas there and back in John's truck (hello, expensive), and just not being at my own house. I'm worried about gaining a lot of weight while being in Cincinnati for a few reasons. 1. Eating all the things I can't get here in New York. 2. Cake at showers. Cake is just something I have NO self control over and I know there will be leftovers...so how in the hell am I to say no to that? 3. Not being able to workout. If the weather is shitty, or even if it isn't, my only option is to use the treadmill at my parents house and with my sciatica the way it acts up from walking, I don't know if I want to do it. I guess I could pay for a week at the gym, but I'm not sure if I'll have a way to get there. 4. What's in the cabinets. My parents always have ice cream, snack, chips, etc. and I don't buy that stuff at my house. "Just don't eat it," I hear you saying. Well, that's easier said than done. That's why I don't buy that stuff at my house. If I do buy it, I'll eat it. So...we'll see how it goes.

Packing on the other hand, is actually something I'm not worried about for once in my life. My options are hugely limited since I don't have a ton of maternity clothes, and I'm actually ok with that. My plans are to only take the 2 pairs of jeans I have, a jean skirt, 2-3 cotton dresses, and some tops...along with a few pairs of yoga pants and workout tops. Then, I'll just do laundry whenever I run out.

My plan is to NOT do too much running around if possible. I just don't want to be stressed, tired, or just feel like I have too much to do. That may seem selfish, but oh well if it does. I gotta do what's easiest for me at this point.

The week

This week hasn't been much exciting for me. John is on the night shift which makes my days pretty sucky. I can't do laundry, run the vacuum, etc. I felt narcoleptic the other day...I've never been so tired in my life. It was dreary out, and I was tired from the second I got out of bed. I thought a workout would energize me, but I felt like it was worse. So afterwards, I took a shower, got my pillow and laid on the couch. Thursday was a beautiful day and I decided to take advantage of it by skipping spin class and going for a walk at the park. It was a great 4 mile walk, but afterwards my sciatica was killing me. I've been having issues with it randomly for the past month and it seems like going for walks is the worse which pisses me off. On nice days, I love going for walks, but now that this stupid sciatica is getting in the way, I guess I'm elliptical, spin bike, and rowing machine bound.

Today I got my hair highlighted and trimmed, and my face waxed. I feel like I'm growing a damn beard on my face and it's been driving me nuts, so I finally had the balls to get it waxed. Why the he'll I've waited so long is beyond me. It's quick, doesn't hurt, and makes me feel so much better. Now all I need is a spray tan to make my look complete. I think I'll wait until right before the shower my sister is having. Yay for tan!!

From Bad to Good

This morning started out awful for me. I woke up feeling terribly annoyed and just overall sad. John's been on the 2pm to 12am shift, trying to slowly adjust to switching to the night shift on Wednesday which means he's sleeping later in the mornings, getting up, working out, and then really only being around for an hour before he leaves for work. Normally I'm not bothered by any of this, but I think just with pregnancy hormones and whatnot, that it just really got to me.

As the day went on though and the temperature got warmer, and the signs of rain diminished, my mood improved greatly. I cleaned all the window sills and screens in the house (which is not something I EVER do), did a few loads of laundry, and then decided I wanted to go pick up Domino's pizza for dinner rather than the only place that delivers to our house. It felt so good to put on a summer dress despite the fact I have no tan. I'm so ready for summer it's not even funny!!

Cheers to Spring

Yesterday was such a great day, and I wish that today could've been just as great. It was sunny, blue skies, warm...simply perfect. Today was also warm, but overcast for most of the day with the talk of rain in the evening.

I spent the day yesterday sitting around for a good portion of the morning, then decided I was going to go to the outlet mall in Lee, Mass. with my friend and then out for dinner. We didn't find anything good at the outlets, but it was a perfect day to drive there and just window shop.

Today I was lucky to find the energy to workout for an hour. I desperately wanted to go for a walk outside, but if it's not completely sunny, I don't feel like walking outside...even if it's warm. I guess I'm weird. I think I just really need the sun since we've had such a long winter. I am glad that it's warming up though. Finally, I can turn off the heat!

Behind

I've been behind on posting lately, largely in part to feeling like garbage for the entire past weekend and then trying to catch up around my house this week. Now it's Friday and I don't have much to show for the week. Oh well, I'm allowed days/weeks like that aren't I?

Today hasn't been the best day around here. First of all, John rode his bike to work (which has been the subject of much controversy between the two of us) and failed to call when he got there. You may be thinking, "Big deal?" Well, there is a 9 mile stretch of road in front of my house with very little to no shoulder and is quite busy during the daytime hours. So I worry about him getting hit because let's face it, there's a lot of idiot drivers out there. So he left at 12:45pm and didn't call until almost 4. I was less than happy. He usually calls by 2, so any time after that, I start to panic and wonder if I need to get in the car and look for his body on the side of the road. Stress my pregnant ass doesn't need.

Then, he works this week until 11pm, which means he doesn't get home until well after midnight. I was more worried about him riding home from work originally because it's late and dark (although he does have a light on the front and back) but he said he's lucky if 10 cars pass him at all. But what sucks though, is he calls when he leaves work and then if I fall asleep and he doesn't get home by the time it should take him to get home, how can I know if something happened? I don't wanna wake up in the middle of the night and find out he never made it home and then go through all of that. UGH.

And then there's the threat of the government shutdown. This infuriates me to no end. It's not a Republican or Democrat issue to me at this point. It's just pure bullshit. How in the hell can they shut down the government, not pay millions of military people who protect and serve this country with their life while Congress will get paid to play the blame game with one another. It's irresponsible on their part and it makes me embarrassed to be an American. It shows that they don't care about anyone but themselves, and want to say that they're trying to do what the American people want. Really? I'm pretty sure if you polled the American people, they'd say it's ludicrous to not pay our military personnel. It's a slap in the face to the work that they do, and if I were a soldier in Iraq and this shit happens...I'd lay down my gun and have a seat. To hell with that.

Yes this pisses me off because it will directly affect us, but even if John wasn't in the military, it would still piss me off. I am thankful that if it does happen, we do have savings and that whenever things get going again, he'll get the back pay...but it's just something that we'd rather not have to deal with at all.

With all of that being said...,that's about all I know for now. Here's hoping tomorrow is another day, the government is up and running, and the sun is shining!
