Powerless

Yesterday we lost power at work around 5:20pm. It wasn't really raining but for 10 minutes, and then the sun came out. It never came back on, so we stayed closed and have to prove on paper which sucked. We didn't get out until 7pm. I called my house to see if I had power at home, and sure enough, didn't since the answering machine didn't pick up.

Luckily my friend Brian called and was also without power so we decided we'd go downtown to Trotter's for 20 cent wing night. John was working so I had no reason to go home. Strangely enough, downtown had power which was good, so we ate and then left around 10 or so. On the down side, I got home and my house was STILL powerless. It was super hot outside which made it even worse. Thank God it came back on by 11pm.

Wipeout

I'm not sure if any of you watch the show "Wipeout" or not but I have to say it's become John and my's favorite summertime show. It always on on Wednesday but it always seems to be on during the weekend when nothing else is on. I never watched it last year and the only reason we started watching it this year is because nothing is ever on. But for the hour that it's on, John and I both laugh out loud. Yeah it's at the contestants expense, but man is it funny. If you don't watch it, and you have a minute and are looking for something to make you laugh, catch it. It's funny!

Adirondack Extreme Adventure!

Today John and I went to a place called Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course. I found it online last week when I was looking for places to take my parents when they come to visit us next week. I clicked on their webpage and knew immediately I wanted to do it. So I left John a note about it to check it out while I was at work and if it looked like something he wanted to do, to make the reservations and we'd do it.

So today was the big day and man, what an awesome time!! We got there around 12:15 and our start time was at 1. We got harnessed up, went through the demonstration course and there were set free to go at our own pace. There were LOTS of people there...lots of kids too, but it was truly a great time. The park consists of 5 courses for adults and after a little over 2 hours we had only gotten through 3 of them. We didn't complete the last 2 because John said his hands couldn't take anymore and we were both hungry. If we would have known it was going to be as physical as it was, we'd have packed a snack to eat between courses.

Looking at some of the courses when you got to them, I seriously wondered how the hell I was going to do some of them. I didn't know if I had the guts in me or not, but as it turned out, I did. I didn't want to be a chicken and I damn sure didn't want to ever fall. If you fall, you are strapped into a harness which catches you, but then you have to pull yourself back up onto whatever obstacle you're crossing and then finish. I think that would have been more work than trying to cross.

One that freaked me out when looking at, was called the Tarzan Jump. You stood on a platform (keep in mind you are in the trees, maybe 50+ feet in the air), clipped into the safety line on a rope, and then ran off the platform and swung over to a cargo net that was hanging mid-air, climbed up the cargo net and into the next tree platform. There are no nets below you to catch you, your only saving grace is the safety line you're clipped in to. I think I'd have been more inclined to fall if there was a net to catch you, and even though you're safe if you fall because of your harness, I never wanted to fall. I was too afraid to!!

The other obstacle that was the most terrifying was this log thing. It was basically a bunch of logs that looked like swings (individual log swings), some where straight and some were crooked, and you had to step from log to log. Keep in mind that as soon as you step on one, it starts swinging this way and that because you're trying to keep your balance, and then you have to step to the next one, but you have to be careful because if you step too fall, you lose your balance, and then all the logs start swinging. It was a nightmare!!! Those were the most difficult to cross and the ones that I was always afraid of falling off of. But, low and behold I made it through the 3 without falling.

My only regret (other than not packing a snack and forcing John to let us finish) is that I didn't take near enough pictures. So, here are the few that I took.

A Night Away, Some Comedy, What More?

What a hilarious day yesterday turned out to be. I wondered if I was going to be able to enjoy myself after the morning I had. We close at noon which I had mentioned in yesterday's post, and we're scheduled for a half hour past that. Well, I didn't leave until 1:15 which didn't make happy. Everyone is SO SLOW about getting things done after the branch closes. There are clearly not enough people that work there and frankly I'm annoyed. So needless to say, we didn't get on the road to leave for Connecticut until 2.

On the funny side of that though, right when I was getting ready to leave work, I got my phone out of my purse and saw that I had a missed call from a number I didn't know, accompanied by a voicemail. So I dial, put in my password, and listen. It's a woman calling from another bank I had applied at the same time I applied at First Niagara....2 months ago! I guess I'd have been happy if I wasn't working, but it made me laugh because I was like, "Wow, way to wait 2 months to call!" When I got home, John asked if she had called my phone because apparently she had called the house first. When he told her I wasn't home, she asked if I was at work. He laughed and said yes. I'll call her back and tell her no thanks tomorrow, considering I'm planning on quiting First Niagara in September due to I want a week off to go to Cincinnati, and I know they won't give it to me. So...peace out.

We got to Connecticut around 5ish, checked into the hotel, and then headed over to the casino for dinner and our show at 8. We ate at a Mexican tequila bar which was pretty good (and the coolest atmosphere ever) and then settled in for some laughs with Jim. I seriously thought I was going to cry the first 5 minutes I was laughing so hard. We both really enjoyed ourselves and the show, and afterwards did a little gambling. Needless to say, we are not millionaires. I didn't win squat, and John broke even. Every machine he sat at hit. I guess that's God's way of telling me I shouldn't be gambling since NONE hit for me.

At the end of the night when we went to the car to go back to our hotel, there was a couple, 3 casino people and a security guard standing diagonally from our truck. We walked toward it and the guy from the couple says to us, "Man you're missing a show here." They proceeded to tell us that there was a girl passed out in the car next to theres, and she had herself locked in. The people all tried tapping on the windows, beeping their car horns, literally jumping on the car to shake it to see if she would wake up, and she was not responding. As we were leaving the garage an ambulance was coming up so we figured there were going to break into the car to make sure she was alright. At least if she was passed out from being wasted, she had the smarts to go to her car and sit in the passenger seat (if she was even the driver) and sleep it off rather than drive.

It was a really great time and John and I both had a lot of fun. We came home today and low and behold, my landlord was here fixing our porch railing...FINALLY!! It's only been 7 months. He still has a few more things to do, but I told him I want them all done before my parents get here next Sunday. I'm going to trust that he is going to get them done. Keep your fingers crossed!

Heading to Foxwoods

A fun filled work day ahead, can you sense my excitement? Note the HEAVY hint of sarcasm there. On the up side, we only from from 8:30-12:30 with the office actually only being open 9-12 so I guess it's not too bad. I've heard through the grapevine though that my branch is very busy and we'll be waiting on people to well after 12. I'm NOT excited about that.

John and I will be heading to Connecticut after I get home which I'm really excited about. We're going to the Foxwoods Casino to see Jim Gaffigan perform tonight. I'm really excited because he is so funny and this is our first little getaway since moving here. Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze in a few more before winter gets here. I'd really like to go to Boston for a weekend, so I think we'll try and get that in too sometime. Maybe this fall.

First 7 days

7 days into July and I'm still not doing any better about posting! I don't really know why I'm having such problems getting to this, but I am. I'd like to believe it's because I'm working now, but I only work between 3-4 days a week. Although, on the days that I work, I usually get home and don't feel like doing anything so maybe that's why I don't post. That and my life is pretty boring these days.

We didn't do anything exciting for the 4th of July. We talked about going downtown to watch the fireworks at Congress Park, but John's not a fan of crowds so we didn't go down there. We decided to watch them from our front porch, but it was cold and windy so I sat out there alone while John sat inside and watched tv. Needless to say, it was a pretty lame 4th. I'm so used to being able to go to family functions for any and every holiday and the longer we live away from home, the more lame I feel like holidays spent away are.

I spent yesterday waiting for the Sear's repairman to show up and fix our microwave which has been broken for 10 days now. They said they'd be here between 8 and 5 and by 11:30am, I was not happy knowing what a nice day it was. So I got ahold of my neighbor Melissa and we decided that I should "wait" for the repairman while we laid out on the dock. So from 12:30 to 4:30 we laid out and enjoyed the sunshine. Needless to say, the repairman never showed up. I was glad I didn't decide to stay inside all day!!!

This morning I got up and there was a not on my door that said they showed up at 8:30am. Too bad I was sleeping. Maybe if my landlord would have my doorbell fixed, I would have known they came! I called him to ask about it, and he said they'd come back around 4:30ish tonight. We'll see.

I don't have much planned this week other than working on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. John has a 4 day weekend that starts on Friday, so Saturday after I get home from work, we're driving to Connecticut to the Foxwoods Casino to see Jim Gaffigan. I'm really excited because he is a HILARIOUS comedian that we both get a kick out of. We're staying a hotel nearby that offers complimentary limo service to the hotel so it'll be nice that neither of us will have to drive to or from the show. We can see Jim, gamble, and have a few drinks, and then have a free ride back!

Other than that, that's about all I know for today.

Slackin'

I'm super guilty of being a slacker posting lately and I feel bad about it. Well, kinda. I'm not THAT guilty because I'm not sure that all that many people read this, but I know the few people that do, enjoy it. I promise I will do my best to post more for the month of July.
