Haunted Happening

This morning as I was sitting on the edge of my bed putting some socks on, something very strange happened. We have a large ceiling fan light in our bedroom that is controlled by a remote. There is a switch on the wall as soon as you walk in which is obviously the main power source. We leave the switch on all the time and usually leave the fan on low, then turn the light on and off via the remote.

Well, as I'm sitting there putting my socks on, the fan suddenly kicked from low to high, and the light came on. The fan was already on low, but the light had been off. I looked around thinking maybe the remote was in the bed and I had accidentally sat on it. Nope. Sure as shit it was sitting on John's nightstand, while I was sitting on my side of the bed.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. There was another time many months ago that I turned on the light via remote, and as soon as I turned it on, it came on, went off, came back on again, then went off again. I clicked the remote again and it came back on, and was fine after that. Part of me thinks that there is probably something wrong with the wiring, and my dad said that maybe the batteries in the remote are bad, but I'm not sure. I'm not saying my house is haunted, but that doesn't mean that I didn't or don't have visitors. Who knows.

Neighbor Boy

Yesterday started out to be such an annoying day for me. Nothing had happened to make it that way, but weekends for the most part are annoying to me because I never have anything to do or anyone to do things with. Most people get to spend time with their families or spouses on the weekend. I am not one of those people. I worked out later on in the day versus earlier in the morning and got a pretty late start on the errands that I wanted to run.

As I was out exchanging some pants, my neighbor Melissa called me and told me she had figured out the mystery of neighbor boy. Neighbor boy is the guy who lives in the house across the street from us. We've talked to him numerous amounts of times, and A) can never remember his name and B) could never figure out if he was married, engaged, etc. We knew a girl had also lived there because she'd seen her before, but their cars were never there at the same time. So when Melissa called, she said she had run into neighbor boy and he told her he was throwing a party since he's getting a divorce. Hence the cars never being there at the same time. I told her I had no plans for the night since John is on the 3pm-11pm shift this week and if she wanted to go, to let me know.

When I got home from running my errands and was going to go get my mail, I ran into neighbor boy. He told me it was his birthday and that he was getting a divorce and was moving out in a week, hence the party. He introduced me to his friend who was outside moving cars with him and invited me over to the party that was beginning at 6. I took my groceries inside, grabbed a beer from my fridge, and walked over.

I had no idea the night was going to turn out as fun as it did. I thought I was going to feel awkward being over there as people filtered in that I didn't know, but I didn't. He introduced everyone to me, and everyone was SO friendly.

I text Melissa on one of my trips over to my house to get a beer and let her know that I was over there and was planning on staying for a while and to join me if she was up for it. She came over about an hour or so after I'd been there and we chatted it up with everyone. Her husband joined us later on in the evening to finish out the night. They left at 12:30am and I was the last one to leave at 1:15am when John got home from work.

I was really happy that the night was as much fun as it was. We had plenty of drinks, good company, a bonfire, s'mores, and even a run in with some Jimmy Choo shoes.

Packing

Once again, I am packing. This trip's destination: Cincinnati. John has a 4 day weekend next weekend so I'm going down tomorrow and he will fly in on Thursday night, have his mom pick him up in Dayton and then he's supposed to come down on Friday to see my nephews and have dinner with my family, and then I will go up to his parent's on Sunday night so we can leave on Monday morning.

I detest packing with just about all that I have. I always pack WAY too much. I have a mid-sized suitcase, a duffel bag full of shoes (I think 5 or 6 pairs), a back pack with my hair and make up stuff, and then a small cooler for drinks and a pb&j sandwich, and then another canvas grocery tote that has some snacks. Ridiculous right? I know. But, I hate stopping for anything but pee breaks and gas fill ups, and generally, they fall at the same time. I rarely make a separate stop to pee.

With all this being said, it's now 8:40pm and I want to get to bed soon. I like to leave as early as possible so I can get there before I feel like my whole day is gone. Forgive me if these posts lack for the next 8 or 9 days. I don't get a whole lot of time to update while I'm home. I'm too busy seeing friends, family, or playing with my nephews!

The Power of Baby Shampoo

I use the Bare Escentuals make-up and have for quite a number of years. I love it. It never feels heavy, cakey, and generally makes my face look pretty good. Well, I've had the same brushes since my mom bought me the starter kit years ago. The one I use to put the foundation on my face has felt like a straw broom for a good 2 years and I've been saying forever, "I need to buy new brushes," and have never gotten around to it.

Upon my shopping trip with Melissa last week, (or was it earlier this week?) and I had mentioned this need. She told me that she went to get some new ones once and the girl told her that they sell a clear you can use to clean your brushes, and then whispered that you can also use Johnson's & Johnson's baby shampoo and it works just as well and costs MUCH less. She said she tried it and it worked amazing.

So yesterday when she and I were running some errands I had asked her if I could borrow a squirt of shampoo to clean them. HOLY MOLY! How fantastic my brushes feel!! They feel brand new. I am so happy because now I don't have to invest in new brushes, I can just clean these every 2 months or so. So if you use any kind of brushes for make up, use some baby shampoo to clean them, let them dry for a day or two, and they'll be good as new!

It Must Be Love

If you happen to watch any sort of sports on television, you may have seen the commercials for the US Open going on right now here in New York. I love these commercials for the sheer fact that I love tennis so much. It couldn't be more true if I wanted it to be. My biggest regret is that I didn't find a way to go...but I'm hoping for next year. This is my first year in quite a few years that I haven't seen live tennis. I've got 3 opportunities next year. Montreal, Cincinnati, and New York, all within 2 months of each other I believe...and all assuming I'm not with child by then. Oh the sacrifices and planning that will take one way or another. Either way...tennis is on my list for next year. I love you tennis, and I'm sorry for not really being there for you in person this year. Oh yes, it must be love.

The Perfect Banana

There is nothing I love more than a perfect banana. The perfect banana is one that is not too big in length or width, yellow with NO brown speckels, it might even be the slightest bit green where you peel it from the top. The inside of it is in no way mushy, pretty firm. YUM! I think there is only about a day or two that bananas are like that, and that is the only time that I like to eat them. I was excited that today was that day in our bunch that we bought a few days ago. I will not have another one as they will speckel by tomorrow and to me, no thanks.

Skin Cancer or Sunless Tanner?

Lately, I have been struggling with separating myself from the sun. I gave up my tanning membership back in June due to the fact that it was going to be summertime and I have a dock right across the street that my neighbor and I lay out on. Then, I got a job and I knew I would never feel like going there after I got off.

Well, the summer wasn't much of a summer and here it is September, and I'm hating how pale my skin is. My cousin's bachelorette party is in 2 weeks and I'd like to be tan for it. My mom told me not too long ago that my dad is going to have to put some chemotherapy cream on his face due to the skin damage that he has under the surface. This cream will basically burn all his skin off, regrow new, and supposedly fix his possible future need for surgical removal of skin cancer. My grandpa has already had surgery a few times in the past month or two to remove large spots of skin cancer from his face.

With all of this, I am thinking that I should probably stay away from tanning altogether. But on the other hand, I hate the way I look without a tan. It makes me look better and feel better. So today I decided I would try and use the Jergens lotion that has the self tanner in it. In a week I'm curious to see how much "tanner" I will be, however, the other part of me doesn't know if I'll make it a week. It smells awful after you put it on and smell doesn't go away.

Do I want skin cancer? Not so much. Do I want to be tan? Yes. Do I want to smell like a flapjack (John thinks it smells like syrup)? Not really. Skin cancer or sunless tanner. You'd think the choice would be easy. For me? Not so much.
