We move, get settled, adjust, and just when things feel slightly normal...we move again. All I can hope is that someday...we'll put down roots.

The Price of Walking
I forced myself to walk on the treadmill today for 30 minutes. It gave me some energy for a good portion of the afternoon, however, the price I'm now paying for that is an extremely sore pubic bone. It's quickly reminded me why I stopped walking and switched to my spin bike and eleptical. But recently, with using those I still end up with terrible hip and sciatic pain later that night. I'm lucky to work out 3 days a week anymore which I hate. I'm screwed every which way I go. And taking Tylenol to get rid of the pain is a joke. I keep hoping one day I'll work out and not pay for it later....but so far, no such luck.

So Tired
I have been so incredibly tired these past 3 days that I can hardly function. The sad thing is that it isn't even heat related. Guess it's just mu body slowing down before the baby gets here. 5 weeks and some days to go...hopefully we can shorten that by a week or few days! Wishful thinking.

Bites bite!
We...well, John much more so than I, are now the proud owners of black fly bites due to our weekend trip to Whiteface. We knew to expect bug bites and to arm ourselves with bug spray since the race website specifically said, "Bring bug repellent if you want to avoid getting bit." For me, I was worried for obvious reason. Prego girls shouldn't use bug spray with DEET (and come to think of it, I don't even know if our spray had DEET in it or not). But I wasn't about to get bit. So I wore long pants and a hooded sweatshirt up to the summit, which was only in the 50s anyways so I needed the warmth anyways, and I had John spray my clothes rather than my skin and he obviously sprayed himself down from head to toe since he was obviously going to attract them while running and sweating.
I thankfully only came away with 1 on my neck. John, however, has probably 10 or so and they are NASTY looking. I pulled this image off of Google and it's exactly how John's look. Although, John's are not all clustered like this. He's got a few on his legs, arms, and one on his jawline.

The downfall to our perfect weekend!

Great Weekend
This has been once of the best weekends I have had in quite some time. John was off and had registered a few weeks ago to run an uphill race at Whiteface Mountain for this Sunday. His original plan was to drive up this morning, run, and then drive back home...all while thinking I'd come along. I told him last week that he could kiss my giant pregnant ass if he thought he'd stick me in a car for 2 hours, then make me sit at the top of a mountain for an hour and a half while he ran up, and then sit for another 2 hours to go home. I told him the only way I was going is if we went up the night before and just made an overnight trip of it. His original response was, "Well, I have to work on my class on Saturday and I think it's stupid to spend the extra money." Me: "Ummm, you do only work on your class from 7am until about 10 or 11am, not all day. We could leave in the afternoon. And do you realize that come next month, overnight/weekend trips alone will be a thing of the past?" He didn't really respond, but the next day after I suggested that, he left a post-it on the counter that said, "Go ahead and book a place for us at Whiteface for that Saturday night before the race." I win!
So, needless to say, I booked a place for us. However, I was a little bit skeptical. Something you may not know about me. I'm kinda snobby when it comes to places to stay...I don't do "motels" or anywhere the doors are accessible from the outside. John and I stayed in a DUMPY HoJo years ago when we were dating and it scarred me for life. Unfortunately, there were only "motels" in the Whiteface area and any major chain hotels were either in the Lake Placid or Saranac Lake area, which were going to be a 30 minute drive to the mountain, plus much more expensive. I looked at my very few options in Whiteface, and the only place that was reasonable was a place called the Mountain Brook Lodge, which was, in fact, a "motel." The funny thing was though, that every place I could find that had reviews for it gave it 5 stars. It didn't look dumpy from the outside, and the rooms looked ok (had that Adirondack look i.e. all wood paneling in the rooms). Everyone's reviews said the owners were great and they had a comfortable stay, blah, blah, blah. For $89 a night and not forcing us to stay for 2 nights (most places up that way have a 2 night minimum stay during peak seasons and weekends) and not to mention a 5 minute drive from where John needed to be this morning, I said screw it, and booked it.
The joke all they way up yesterday was how it was going to be the Bates Motel and I was going to hate every second of staying. And can I say what an AMAZING weather day Saturday was?? Low to mid 70s, sunny...PERFECT!! We got there around 4 and as soon as we pulled up, I wasn't afraid at all. It looked cute and very non-scary for a motel, and I hate to even call it a motel because it really wasn't. I know you all know that motels usually LOOK like motels. They just have that scary and run down look to them. This place did not! It's just a guy and his wife who own it and are the nicest people on the planet. The know everyone's names who are staying with them and will do anything you need to make you feel at home. The town it's in is super tiny so they could give you recommendations on where to go and anything else you needed. It was just so out of the ordinary from any major hotel, I imagine it's more like a bed and breakfast than a motel.
We had dinner over in Lake Placid Saturday night at a place called Generations. It was so good! We had a fruit and cheese platter as an appetizer and I had a grilled chicken sandwich for dinner that had roasted red pepper, pesto, and cheese on it, while John had ravioli. After dinner we just walked around town since it wasn't overcrowded, which was nice for it being a Saturday night in Placid. After that, we went back to Whiteface, walked to a whippy dip around the corner for a malt, and then came back to watch some tv before bed. The weather was just so nice and everywhere wasn't busy so it was just really enjoyable to be out.
5am came bright and early this morning and there was no sleeping in for me. Once he's up and milling around and we're in the same room, it's up for me too. 6:30am rolled around and we were able to walk not even .2 miles to pick up his packet and number, and then turn right around and walk back to our place so I could eat breakfast at 7 before he wanted to wait at the start at 7:30.
I left around 7:45 to drive up to the top of the mountain and wait. The race started at 8 and John arrived at the top around 9:25. He managed to come in 26th out of 120something runners with a time of 1:21:and some seconds. And would you know that after that 8% grade, 8 mile uphill run, he ran back down to the hotel? Yup. The man is crazy. So I drove 8 Canadians down.
There was a guy and his wife that I heard talking about thumbing a ride down as they walked past the truck before I left and offered to take them. They were so happy! So on our way down the mountain we picked up 4 more people who were thumbing, so they piled in the bed. And then another mile later, 2 other people we saw, we asked if they wanted a ride, and they too, piled in the bed. We passed John around mile 5 and I asked if he was sure he didn't want a ride since we had one seat left in the cab. He said no, so we drove on. I dropped everyone off at the bottom of the mountain at the start line and was happy that I could contribute something to these people. It's a courtesy that a lot of people adopt when there are mountain races like this. Since it's one way up, if you don't have someone at the top waiting to take you down, you either run back down or pray someone will be kind enough to drive you down.
After John got back to the hotel he showered and then we went back to Lake Placid for brunch, and then to a place called High Falls Gorge. I wanted to go last year when he ran the Lake Placid marathon, but the day we got there it was raining so we didn't go. It was so much scarier than I thought it would be, well, the trail that is. The "hard" path was closed due to damage they incurred during spring flooding which they were showing video of it in the gift shop which I guess is what originally scared me. But then once we saw where that trail was, I was kinda glad it was closed. It's literally jutting out from the cliff on some wood and steel. SCARY!!

It was a great weekend...best we've had together in long time and I'm so happy we had such a nice time. Yay!

Perfect Weather
What a perfect weather day today was! Not a cloud in the sky, sunny, low 70s...pretty perfect minus the breezy conditions. Although, it wasn't as bad as yesterdays wind. Yuck! The day overall had "perfect" potential. The weather, I had lunch with a friend from WA who I haven't seen in 3 years, watched an EPIC tennis match from the French Open between Federer and Djokovic, but the only downfall to the near perfect day was that I felt like total hell this morning. I woke up at 4 and couldn't fall back to sleep to save my life. I had to be up at 7 so I could get ready for my doctor's appointment, which they cancelled 15 minutes before my appointment and was already on my way there, so I wasn't all that disappointed they did cancel since it gave me a chance to come home and catch a quick nap before meeting my friend for lunch. But when I got up at 7 I thought I was hungry, but when I tried to eat, it just made me feel like I was going to barf. Thankfully it didn't last all day, but I did feel very sluggish and blah for most of the day, but despite that...it was near perfect (especially weather wise). I'm hoping tomorrow will be better!

June 1st
Wow, here it is, June 1st. I did a terrible job of posting last month and I'd like to think I'll do a better job this month. Time will tell though.
With June 1st comes LOTS more excitement, seeing as our baby is due NEXT month. I'm hoping this month will go by fast, but since that's what I'm hoping for...I'm sure it'll creep by. Although, we do have plans for this weekend, next weekend, and then a friend of mine is coming up the weekend after that so maybe with all of that it will go fast.
Not much has been going on around here. My birthday was less than exciting since John was on the night shift, and I had a doctor's appointment the next day. So we "celebrated" the next day by going for Indian food before he had to go to work. He did get me a nice necklace from Tiffany's as my gift though. He's gotten good at that :)
Last weekend he did a duathalon downtown. It was a 5k run, 20 miles on a bike, and then another 5k run. He finished in about an hour and 53 minutes which was pretty good. I think he was 53rd overall out of 400 participants. He would've been 3rd in his age division, by our neighbor beat him out by just a few minutes (he does bike racing with his wife) due to his much faster bike riding than John. But still, his performance was really good. I was the designated cheerleader of course, cheering for John, Melissa and Jason (our neighbors), and another one of their friends who races, Aurora. I feel kinda lame being the one who doesn't do any of that (not like I could right now) stuff, but I guess I'll get over it.
I'm ready for it to be tomorrow since we're supposed to get a break in the heat. It's been in the high 80s and humid lately, but tomorrow is only supposed to be high 60s which is going to feel downright cold! But my air conditioner will be happy to get a break though. I've got some laundry that needs to be done that I've been putting off since our dryer is upstairs and our upstairs doesn't need any additional help being hot as it is.
I don't really know much else seeing as my life is pretty lame these days. Yes, I know that will soon change. Hopefully I'll do a better job posting this month than last month!

Back to It
So it's been about a month since my last post and I'm finally just getting back to it. We were gone for about 2 weeks and was beyond overwhelmed once we got back. I'll sum up the past 4 weeks as quickly as possible without going into too much detail about any situation or goings on.
Being home was great. We had two baby showers, one put on by his family, and the other put on by my sister and mom. The shower my in-laws threw was really nice and the shower my mom and sister threw was amazing. The cake my sister had made was stunning! It was a replica of the turtles that were on my invitation and was SUPER delicious. The only downfall to both of these showers, the 9lbs I gained in 4 weeks. Yeah, found that out when I went to my doctor's appointment the day after we got back. I wasn't super excited about it, but oh well. Now that we're back home, I'll just have to be extra diligent about what I eat and making sure I get to work out.
John ran the Flying Pig Marathon while we were home. It was the first race I've ever not gone to support him at the finish line. I felt bad about not being able to be there, but the race began at 6:30a.m. and I think he left my parents at 4a.m. which was just NOT something my body was going to allow me to do. My belly, him, and I in a queen size bed didn't make for the most comfortable conditions, so I wasn't sleeping well at all. Plus, the weather was garbage that day and I wasn't about to stand outside in the rain and risk getting a cold. His goal was to finish in 3:30:00 and he finished in 3:38:something. He said the hills were what really got him...that and the humidity. Either way, he did great despite not meeting his "goal" time.
Getting home from Cincinnati was quite the chore. We had so much baby stuff that we had to buy 2 30 gallon Rubbermaid containers, one 45 gallon one, and had another 30 gallon one my parents weren't needing anymore. They were all full along with the cab of our truck! Thankfully the weather was decent for most of the trip, only raining for about and hour in Columbus and the entire last hour once we got near home.
Unpacking all the baby stuff has been a little overwhelming. John was very gung ho about getting it all separated and unpacked before he had to go back to work, but despite all that, we still have 2 bins full of things. One is toys and the other is of things that need to be laundered. I deal with it on days that I feel like dealing with it, and leave it sit the others. Hopefully I'll get it all done before she arrives!!
John ran another race (he's a bit obsessed with doing these random races lately) last Saturday. It's called the Prospect Mountain Race. 5.67 miles up a 1,600 something elevation gain. He came in 3rd in his age group and 11th out of 134 runners with a time of 47:46. He's officially insane.
My 31st birthday is tomorrow and that makes me feel old. We have nothing special planned since John is on the night shift this week for the next 7 days, and I have a doctor's appointment on Friday. So we'll do dinner out on Friday, that way I can enjoy all my food rather than worrying about having to get on the scale. I can splurge and enjoy the weekend, and get back to normal on Monday. Assuming the scale isn't too ridiculous Friday. Here's to hoping!
