Getting Back to It

It's been a little over a month and I'm finally getting back to this thing. I've been on hiatus for a while, mainly for the fact that I was feeling like shit for a while and no one who reads this that is in my family knew that I was pregnant, so it was hard to write anything at all without either raising suspicion or people just being sick of me bitching about how awful I felt.

So, if you don't already know...yes, I'm pregnant. I'm 11 and 1/2 weeks and feeling pretty good. Weeks 6-8 were a rough time, but I turned the corner for the most part around 8 weeks and have been feeling pretty good since. I have days where I don't feel so hot, or just an hour here and there where I don't feel good, but it generally passes or it's right before I go to bed, and then it goes away then when I lay down, so I guess I can't complain too much.

This IS something we planned on, and it happened quicker than I think I expected it to. We've said for the past year, "We aren't preventing, but we aren't 'trying'" which is true. It wasn't until our cruise we took in October that I said, "Anytime after this cruise...I'm good," and I knew it was a possibility that it could happen then. I didn't honestly think that it would, but it did, and well...there you go!

We're happy and excited, but I'm not one who is all gaga about it, nor do I really like to be put in the spotlight. I'm not good at telling people, and as much as I wanted to tell everyone, when faced with it, I didn't want to. I was hoping that the few people I did tell would then just pass the word on for me. On Christmas Eve, I told John and his mom that they could go ahead and tell people because if they left if up to me, I wasn't saying anything. So John told the few people who were there when we got there, and then his mom told the rest which worked out perfect for me. It takes the pressure off me and just leaves me to say thank you and fill in any details people wanted to ask.

Christmas Day was a little different. With most people, I mentioned it in a round about way if the opportunity presented itself, and if it didn't, I didn't say anything. And if anyone is upset that they didn't get the personal tell from me, well, there's nothing I can do about it. I had one person say something to me earlier in the week that was off, and that is what really put me off about telling people. But, it's all over and I'm assuming everyone knows. If not, I guess they'll find out eventually!

That's all I know for now. I'm still exhausted from traveling so I'll keep this to a minimum. I'll do my best in the upcoming days, weeks, and months to get back into the swing of posting on a semi-daily basis.

Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! Nothing exciting is going on at our house. We aren't having anyone over nor are we going anywhere. Just cooking a small turkey for ourselves with some mashed potatoes, stuffing, greenbeans, and an almond poundcake for dessert. It smells delicious cooking! Can't wait to have some!!

Race Results

The official results are in and Super John's time to run 50 miles was 10 hours, 38 minutes and some odd seconds. I am so crazy proud of him! The weather was good all day and he was able to finish with no major pains other than being stiff once he stopped moving.

I was worried because he was supposed to call me when he thought he was 2 hours away from finishing, and by 3 when I hadn't heard from him, I panicked a bit. Then 4 rolled around...still nothing. I decided that come 5pm and I still hadn't heard from him, that I go to the finish line anyways and just wait, and pray that I wasn't sitting there for 2, 3, 4+ hours waiting on him. 5pm marked the 10 hour mark for his time, so I figured if he was keeping pace, he'd finish somewhere in that window of 5-6.

So 5 came, I got in the car and drove to the finish, parked and walked to where the actual finish line was. It was dark, cold by this point, and just too loud for me to focus on anything other than worrying. So I walked down aways to a street lamp, and stood there hoping that I'd see him. Within 30 minutes of standing there, I saw him walking toward me. WHEW!! I asked him how he was doing and he said he had to walk the last 5 miles because his knee started to bother him, but other than that, he felt good. I told him I loved him and was proud of him and walked next to him until we got toward the finish where I veered off the street so I could go around and meet him on the other side of the finish line.

My husband is a crazy man. But he has more drive and determination than I've ever known in my whole life, and I'm super proud of all he can accomplish. I just hope I'm worthy enough to be his wife!

Maryland

We are currently in Maryland for the weekend as John signed up a few months ago for an ultra marathon. If you are not familiar with what an ultra marathon is, it's 50 miles rather than 26.2. A guy at work talked him into it and then apparently screwed his knee up last month so is no longer doing it.

We went today to find the starting line so I can drop him off, and the finish to pick him up. While we were driving I said, "Aren't you gonna get lonely running 50 miles by yourself?" His reply was, "Really?Look who you're talking too." Not like I needed extra proof to know he's a loner, but still, running for 10 hours, even amongst others, would still be lonely. I guess this is why I am the social butterfly and he is not.

We attempted to eat at Olive Garden tonight which proved to be a GIANT mistake. I have never seen so many people in my life. We were going to ask how long the wait was, but the line for that was even ridiculous! So since our hotel is in the same parking lot, we decided to go back, call it in, and then bring it back to eat. That proved to be a much better plan. When we went back to get it, people we had seen in line were still waiting. Glad we had a choice!

With it being 10:40pm and John waking me up at 5 to take him to the start, I should get to bed. Pray that John does well, that his body stays functioning properly to bring him safely to the finish! And lucky me, I get to worry about him fir the 10+ hours he's out running!

Sleeping In

Ahhhhh. Yesterday was our last day at work until the next project rolls in (probably after the first of the year) so today...it was back to sleeping in. Granted, sleeping in is now 8-8:30am since I'm used to getting up at 5:45am, but it still feels like heaven!

6 mile Saturday

I named today 6 mile Saturday because I ran 6 miles at the battlefield this morning. John ran the first 3 miles of it with me, and then I gave him permission to ditch me and finish his 10 so that way I wouldn't have to wait around that much longer if he would've ran the whole 6 with me.

I'm pretty proud of myself since I can't remember the last time I ran outside, for 6 miles without stopping to walk, and finished in less than 70 minutes. I feel great and I'm hoping I can maintain or improve that pace, but time will only tell. I guess that treadmill in my basement has paid off. The only downfall though, is that once the temperature dips below the upper 40s, I can't say I'll run outside anymore because the cold air hurts my lungs. Maybe it'd be different now since I am a somewhat better runner than I was in the past, but I'm not sure.

It does bother me a bit that I have the capacity to actually be an even better runner, but I give up too easily and have tendency to quit before my body ever does. I just get bored and can't ever seem to get out of my head. That's the only bonus about running on the road. If you run out so far, you gotta get yourself back, whereas on a treadmill, you can stop and get off whenever you feel like it.

Despite all of this, I am proud of today's run and hope to continue!

Burning Leaves

I love the smell of burning leaves and all, but someone behind us is burning them and the smell is so intense that it's almost hard to breath outside. Not to mention that the smell has seeped into the back park of my house and into my basement, and also, into both of our cars. As much as I like the smell, I don't like it THAT much.
